Dr. Swaminathan Sivaram is a polymer chemist, mentor and science manager of distinction. An alumnus of IIT-Kanpur (M.Sc. 1967), he received his Ph.D in Chemistry from Purdue University, W. Lafayette,Indiana, USA in 1971. After a brief stay as a Research Associate at the Institute of Polymer Science, University of Akron, USA he joined the Research Centre of Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd.at Vadodara, India and rose to the position of Deputy General Manager (R&D). . Dr Sivaram joined National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune in 1988 as Head of the Polymer Chemistry Division, and was appointed Director of the Laboratory in 2002. He assumed the position of a CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow at NCL in 2011 upon completion of his tenure as Director of NCL.
Dr. Sivaram was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India in 2006. He is also the recipient of J.C. Bose Fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India for the period 2007-11. Currently, He is the Chairman of Entrepreneurship Development Center, a ‘not for profit’ Company promoted by CSIR-NCL to drive innovation and create wealth out of cutting edge science and technology.
